Happy mail rocks!
I also got a Christmas card from my cousin Shawn. I have not heard from her in about 2 years and had lost her new addy. She lives in Minnesota. So I am so going to write her a letter and send her a card. We have only received 4 cards this year so far. LOL We need to be more social! I sent out 40 so I am feeling a little Charlie Brown here!

I went to Michaels Sunday afternoon. Proudly picked up a Crayola Cutter! I think I can use it for scrapbooking and Harrison can use it to cut stuff. I also picked up an ornament for this year. I buy one every year for H. (It scanned with my smudgy fingerprints all over it so quality is not so hot).

I found some very neat foam letters at Dollar Tree. It has A-Z and adhesive already on the back, and comes in 4 different colors per pack! Great bargain.
Speaking of scrappy deals, the Cricut site has a special promo right now where if you buy 2 carts (anywhere) you get a 3rd FREE!!!! Bargain!

I need to try and go get some sleep. So much to do, so little time! Later today we are spending the day with my mom and dad.

I wrote a letter to daddy...

My dad's 57th birthday was Wednesday, Dec.12. We celebrated Friday. He is really hard to buy for because he is a simple man--all his possessions fit into a drawer. He does not collect anything, and does not really believe in material items. I don't know if it is because he was born in a desolate little Mexican village and never really had anything to call his own or what. My mom and brothers got him new slippers, his "chopos" (that is his nickname for them). So I thought and thought and was not sure what to buy at all. If I handed him cash or a gift card, I knew he would hand them back and tell me to buy something for myself. He is always a giver. So finally it hit me that he might miss some food from back home. Nope, I don't cook, that is what I married Ben for! (teehee). So we went to a local market called La Feria Latina. I love going there! I don't go there enough. We picked up pan dulces (sweet bread, churros), tacos carne asada, chicharrones (pork rinds), Abuelita (grandma's) hot chocolate, and various Mexican sodas (only 69 cents each!). I love that you can get soda in hard-to-find flavors like Sangria, Pineapple, Peach and Guayaba (my dad's family has guayaba and lime orchards). I bought myself some ice cream and some platain (an exotic banana) chips, and some sweet bread. Oh, and my favoritest thing in the world: Limon Candy. It is salt. Lime flavored salt. And yes, it is considered a candy. I put it on limes and then pass out from the high salt content (only joking!!) The wrapper cracks me up because the company that makes it is called:

El Gordo (or fat...why would you put the word FAT on a candy wrapper??LOL). My dad thoroughly enjoyed his gift. I was so happy. :)

Wednesday we went to the Omniplex, which is newly named The Oklahoma Science Museum, oops Science Museum Oklahoma. It has been the Omniplex my whole life so it will take getting used to the new name. We saw the Christmas show in the planetarium, played on the Gadget Tree, and the Explorazone area for toddlers. We DID NOT go see the exhibit...actual human bodies (not alive) on display. Um, no thanks!

Ramblings

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
This is a random post on nothing really.
Want some cool fonts? Go to www.urbanfonts.com
I love patterns and dots font.
Music I am loving right now...
The Weepies--Stars
The Weepies--All That I Want
A Fine Frenzy--Almost Lover

Anything by Paramore
I recently saw Enchanted over last weekend. LOVED it. It had lots of singing and references to the other princess films. My husband--not so much. He was a little bored by it. It is definitely a girlie film.
Movies I want to see:
Juno
I Am Legend
Nanny Diaries
The Ex
and I rented Babel (yes, I am behind!!) and hope to watch it tonight.
Want a free hair product sample? Go to www.hairmystery.com
The reason for my ramblings? This was my night/morning:
9pm--son goes to sleep
watch tv with dh and check email
11pm--dh goes to sleep
I start to read a book and check voicemails.
12am--midnight
son sits upright in bed and yells, "Wake up everyone!!"
12:35am--Baby Einstein dvd is over.
1:37am--son demands a bath. I think, maybe it would help him sleep. WRONG.
son refuses to rinse hair--I do it anyway.
1:51am--son is rolling around in ball pit. I go to his room and realize he has cat in ball pit with him. Cat is grateful when I free him.
1:59am--we get online to watch his favorite Kermit YouTube video.
We come across a Donald Duck farm one. Son asks why Donald is milking pee from cow. Have talk with son about milk coming from cow. Although the milk did look yellow.
2:13am--read a gazillion books to son
3:17am--son keeps poking my spine to make sure I am near him. Prodding stops...I ease out of bed only to hear, "MAMA!!!" a few seconds before my feet hit the ground.
3:23am--dh warms up some milk hoping it will remedy son's insomnia and he grumbles the whole time while doing it.
3:30am--BINGO! We have sleepy eyes!
5:59am--I have insomnia from my adventure and now I am blogging about my bad parenting skills. I have more ice pics (snow is on its way today so I hope to have snow pics soon!), and pics from our adventure at the Oklahoma Science Museum on Wednesday. I will post some pics tonight (unless I am dealing with my toddler's insomnia!!!)

The Legend of the Candy Cane

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
According to legend there was a candy maker who wanted to invent a candy that was a witness to Christ. First of all, he used a hard candy because Christ is the rock of ages. This hard candy was shaped so that it would resemble a "J" for Jesus or, turned upside down, a shepherd's staff. He made it white to represent the purity of Christ. Finally, a red stripe was added to represent the blood Christ shed for the sins of the world, and three thinner red stripes for the stripes He received on our behalf when the Roman soldiers whipped Him. Sometimes a green stripe is added as a reminder that Jesus is a gift from God. The flavor of the cane is peppermint, which is similar to hyssop. Hyssop is in the mint family and was used in the Old Testament for purification and sacrifice. Jesus is the pure Lamb of God, come to be a sacrifice for the sins of the world. So, every time you see a candy cane, remember the message of the candy maker: Jesus is the Christ!

Ice Vice

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Oh, this ice storm!! This is day 3. Bleh.
1 in 3 Oklahomans are without power. The electiric company has set up booths at local grocery stores so people can report power outages. Trees, branches and power lines are in some of the streets.
Today it rained and since it was 34 degrees the ice started to melt. I saw a huge chunk slide off our car and you could hear crashing noises--from trees splitting or falling--inside the house. So we saw since the roads were wet, not icy that it would be good to venture out and do some errands. Our car would not start! The battery died. Ben jumped it with his truck and had trouble finding an open store to buy a new one (local stores have no electricity, 4 WalMarts are closed, and our local McD's!). Finally, he changed it out and we went driving towards the grocery store. A huge chunk of ice fell from a power line in front of our car with a loud crash!! We were grateful it did not hit the car or the windshield!
We are really lucky to still have power. I can hear generators outside. Some people in the cul-de-sac across from us have no power.
Ben will be home again tomorrow because schools are closed. Schools have been closed since Monday.
My mom was a little sad when I talked to her today. She says she lost a lot of her trees. :(
The weathermen say more is coming in tonight through Friday.
On the upside my house is really clean and I have been able to do some reading. And I have been taking ice pictures (carefully) like mad.

I forgot to add these yesterday! :( I took these icicle pics Monday night.
